Type Locality and Naming

Named after the Khojaikan mine, southeastern Kugitangtau, southern Gissar. Collective authors, 1985 (466, p.50). It is a junior synonym of most of the Gaurdak Gr. The term is used only within the territory of Turkmenistan. [But, following the USGS map, this is the southern Gissar region.]

Synonym: Gaurdak Gr, Khojaikan Suite, Ходжаикканская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Layers of salts, which are white and light-gray at the bottom, and pink in the upper part. The upper part of the Khodzhaikan Fm consists of rhythmically alternating layers of three mountainous potassium salts and three mountainous halites. The average thickness of the halite layer is 230-250 m, and the potassium-bearing layer is 125-170 m. The suite ends with "cover anhydrites" containing interlayers of red clays, marls, and limestones. The average thickness of the "cover anhydrites" is 10-15 m.
